There’s a great little pet cemetery in the Presidio @ McDowell and Crissy Field Avenues. It would be great if more people knew and cared about this little treasure.
UPDATE: Sadly, it looks as if this spot has been largely ruined, as commenters have pointed out:
I have a bunch of pics of this cemetery from when I lived in the Presidio a couple of years ago. It’s really a fascinating place. http://www.flickr.com/photos/binary88/sets/72157604642840896/
Sadly, the pet cemetery doesn’t much resemble this photo anymore. Because of the Doyle Drive construction, all the trees got cut down and it looks awfully barren. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattymatt/3968392220/
I wrote every paper in San Francisco (and Boing Boing) about this back in August– And nothing, nada, zip… An Absolute Travesty!!!

If you check out the photos from the commenter above you will see what a mess this place has become. I still don’t understand why the trees had to come down. What a special place, and ruined because of what?
That’s AWFUL! The Presidio Trust should be ashamed to have let something like that happen. There are service members’ pets graves in there dating back to WW2.
i totally agree! it’s like we san francioscans had no say at all. where was the public comment period? those trees were hundreds of years old and they just keep cutting. the parks people i spoke with didn’t seem to know who was in charge- it’s so destructive of our community and the beauty of san francisco. it will never be the same…and i don;t even have a pet…heartbreaking!
